getting lost in knee-high cornfields

getting lost in knee-high cornfields

i took directions

from an old man who spoke

as slowly as the condensation that rolled from his glass of whiskey

often about the weather

if it was going to rain or not

his right elbow was acting up

you know what that means

storms are brewing

if you reach the red barn

he said

you’ve gone too far

passed that thing about two weeks ago

arrived at what smells like heaven

the angels are friendly down here

know how to party

calling this place home from now on

waiting for you to get here

if you reach the music

you’ve gone just far enough
